A look back at 2013

Last night after the Superbowl I was on the way home thinking about what’s coming in 2014 and how busy I’ve become already.  I started thinking about what I was doing this time last year.

By February, I already had “The Slow Cold EP” out, and knew that “The Cabinet” and B.O.N. DJ’s “Expo” was on the horizon.  I had been working with Big Jess on his Honorable Mention project and my full length record “Something Different”.   Heiruspecs was already tracking for a new record with a working title of “We are the Future”.

At the beginning of February I received a tweet from Danami Champion suggesting I make a mixtape out of my 16:16 episodes.  At the time I wasn’t sure what my plan was, but in the end, I took his suggestion and ran with it.   In December I released the first volume of what should be many 16:16 mixtapes to come over the years.  I have a lot of fun with that project and don’t see it stopping any time soon.

In todays day and age, rappers are expected to drop an album every 9 months or so with a mixtape or two inbetween.   We expect that of the artists we follow.  Unfortunately this means that, in most cases, what’s produced is diluted in most cases.  Looking back at 2013, I set the bar high for myself, and am ready to do even more in 2014.

Thanks for reading my nostalgic rambling.  Hollar at me when you see me.
